Mishnas Chayim - Chayei Sarah: How to Respond to a Crisis
The Mishnah in Berachos (9:3) shows us what not to do in the event of a crisis (Heaven forbid): “If someone davens after the fact, his prayer is in vain. An example: A person arriving from a journey hears a cry of despair emanating from the city. If he were to respond by praying, ‘May it be Your Will that this cry did not emanate from my household,’ his prayer is for naught.” Read the text version

Mishnas Chayim - Vayeira: This is a Test
Many of us are familiar with the inspiring narrative of Avraham in Ur Kasdim. Mishnas Chayim - Noach: The Party’s Over
Many people are familiar with the oft-quoted statement of R’ Tarphon (Avos 2:15): "R' Tarphon says: The day is short, but the workload is great...” What may come as somewhat of a surprise to some people is that this was not always the case. Mishnas Chayim - Bereishis: Man and Beast… and Angel
Generally speaking, predatory animals are very insensitive creatures, to say the least. Take a wolf, for example. It will pounce upon a young deer and begin to make a meal out of it. The poor wretch may be writhing and moaning in pain, but the wolf is unfazed. He callously goes about his flesh-eating business, impervious to the cries of its prey. Read the text version

Mishnas Chayim - Ha’azinu: A Patriotic P’Shat
Identity Exposed - It is told of the great Ramban that he once had a disciple whose apple, unfortunately, fell very far from his mentor’s tree. This disciple, whose name was Avner, ceased observing mitzvos and became a heretic. He stooped so low that he did not desist even from mocking his former rebbi. Read the text version
