Kavanah During the Avot
The first bracha in the amidah has a stronger requirement for kavanah than the rest of the amidah, so much so that some say that you should go back and repeat the amidah if you didn't have kavanah during this bracha. Rabbi Dovid Bendory, a software engineer at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York, has been teaching courses of Jewish interest since the early 1990s. He currently teaches The Kosher Kitchen and Hilchos Pesach for the Shema Yisrael Torah Network, a weekly class in Hilchos Shabbos at his shul, an on-line class on "Speaking to G-d in His Language", and a daily halacha at the Wall Street Synagogue in downtown Manhattan. Rav Dovid belongs to Congregation Etz Chaim of Livingston, where he currently serves as Education Chair; He has semicha from HaRav Daniel Channen, shlita; HaRav Zalman Nechimia Goldberg, shlita, Av Beis Din Yerushalayim; and HaRav Gedalia Dov Schwartz, shlita, Av Beis Din D'America and Av Beis Din of the Chicago Rabbinical Council.
