FAQs about The OU’s Shnayim Mikra
What is The OU’s Shnayim Mikra? The OU’s Shnayim Mikra is a unique opportunity for people not only to read the weekly Torah portion, but to understand it in new ways, via lectures from popular rabbis and teachers.
What is included?
There will be seven audio lectures (“shiurim”) per Torah portion, corresponding to the seven aliyos. There will be a text synopsis of each aliya, plus access to the original text in Hebrew with English translation. Finally, there will be a text analysis of each portion’s haftara.
How do I access shiurim?
Shiurim will be posted online at www.ouradio.org/mikra
When are the classes given?
Shiurim are pre-recorded and will be available online 24 hours a day. Each week’s aliyos are scheduled to be posted by the preceding Friday (earlier if necessitated by holidays).
What about “double parshas?”
In a week in which two portions are read, we will be posting both portions. In such a case, the aliya breaks will reflect the way they are when the portions are read individually. (In other words, there will be 14 shorter aliyos, rather than 7 longer ones.)
Why doesn’t the text match the aliya?
The text we are accessing is broken down by chapter; the aliyos cross chapters. In other words, they can start mid-chapter and/or continue in the next chapter. We will post a link to the chapter in which each aliya begins; participants can click ahead to the next chapter, if necessary.
Is there a fee to participate?
No, just visit us at www.ouradio.org/mikra
How do I load the shiurim to an iPod or other MP3 player?
Information can be found at http://www.ouradio.org/podcasting.
Please direct additional questions to mikra@ou.org.
